"I found it a very unpleasant sight to see outside a number of pubs in Westport in recent weekends people who were security, private security, personnel standing dressed in black standing outside various premises. I don’t think it gave a right message and in this town where tourism is so extremely important its important also that we give the right message and that we behave within the law.
The reality of life in Westport is that this is a tourist town, that we are dependent upon people coming in here and feeling free that they can move from pub to pub and enjoy the tremendous facilities offered in the top quality pubs we have in this town. I think that that freedom is damaged if we have the presence of security personnel outside every pub."
